SHAH ALAM: Turkish Delights. A number of MOUs are expected to be signed on the sidelines of the KL Summit starting this Wednesday. As you are probably aware Turkish President Recep Erdogan are among the leaders scheduled to attend the KL Summit. Others include Iran President Hassan Rouhani and Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al Thani.
Some of the MOUs to be signed involved defence companies from Turkey and their Malaysian counterparts. More cooperation between Malaysian and Turkish companies was expected following PM Tun Mahathir Mohamad a few months back. During the visit, Tun Mahathir and his delegation also visited Turkish Aerospace, the manufacturer of the Anka MALE UAV which has been promoted to Malaysia since several years ago.

I am not purview to the exact details but was told that MOUs are related to items some which are part of the wish list outlined in the recent Defence White Paper 2019.
The Hurkus trainer prototype and the ATAK helicopter performing the flypast for Dr M and delegation. TAI
Among them are the 6X6, MALE UAV and the MRSS. I was told that despite the MOUs the Turkish-Malaysian offerings will still need to go through the tender process first before being selected to fill the Armed Forces requirements.

It must be noted that Pakistani PM Imran Khan, who was scheduled to be at the summit, had cancelled his appearance. This was likely due to internal developments in the country. Some observers however have already speculated that his non appearance was due to pressure from other Middle east countries.

Wow, good news. The Turks are really powering ahead with their military capabilities, and Malaysia can only benefit from it. It seems that the RMAF is very interested in the TFX too.
MOUs doesn't mean anything. It is the LOU that is gonna be of highly interest.
Qatar investments and Turkey procurements. Interesting.Im surprised that Pakistan is joining too, since they were always seen as "the bodyguard" for the rich kids club.
Turkish items for wishlist?
I would prefer additional AV8 8x8 rather than new 6x6.
Male UAV, we could go turkish if they can give them away for a token price.
MRSS? I am questioning if we really need a LPD for our MRSS requirements?
TF-X? They are looking at something closer to F-22 in size and performamce for that. The price would be accordingly high.
What item i would like us to get from turkey?
- SOM-J standoff missile for MKM/hornets
- ASELPOD targetting pod for LCA
- MEHPOD jammer pod for LCA
- RWR/MAWS sensor and chaff flare dispensers for LCA, EC725, C-130, A-400M
- HAVASOJ airborne standoff jammer system.
- FIC boats for MMEA
- aselsan SMASH 30mm RCWS
- manpack soldier ESM systems
- more AV8 8x8 gempita
- upgrade packages for adnan/mifv
So far there's hardly any firm news on what's happening in terms of defence buys from MinDef. Is there a gag order or is there 'actual' backdoor wrangling on what to buy and if so, from which party? This kinda news will definitely boosts the spirits of both the arms purchase watchers and the servicemen and women.

Noticed one of our Hornets at the last LIMA (search for M45-
02) apparently had paint badly chipped or peeled on the inside of a vertical stabiliser. I believe the issue was present before the engine mishap on 26 March so it wouldn’t have been related.

The vertical fin is at the back. I am pretty sure they had figured out by now what really happened but I am not purview to the latest information

M45-06 suffered a bird strike on March 26. But the paint job issue was on M45-02, I'm wondering what could have was peeled or chipped the paint so badly. Pics:

Paint peel off is nothing much. Just they did not touch it up before LIMA. Probably it is due for a full repaint so things like that are just left as it is.

Is it really? We've all seen thousands of pictures of aircraft and they are nothing like this. I've never seen more than a few scratches around moving or removable parts, stains from greasy hands and cooling vents.
I'm not saying the aircraft isn't well cared for- the rest of the aircraft is pristine. Such a large pattern of chipping on a non-contact, non-moving surface suggests a mishap occurred.
