SHAH ALAM: It is not only the Army recapitalizing it support vehicles fleet. The police is doing that as well with two tenders for the supply of seventy-five, three-and-five tonne trucks and thirty buses for tactical operations.
The police has also published tenders for operational – 4X4s, vans, and saloon cars – vehicles early this year but no contracts have been awarded just yet. I have no idea why.
The title for the truck tender:
PEROLEHAN 50 BUAH KENDERAAN JENIS SPECIAL TACTICAL CREW CABIN LORRY UNTUK KEGUNAAN POLIS DIRAJA MALAYSIA (PDRM)
Yes, the title says 50 but when you go through the specifications it said that the tender is for fifty, three tonners and twenty-five, five-tonner truck for a total of seventy-five. The trucks are troop carriers as the specifications called for them to be fitted with convertible seats for 18 personnel in the back with at least five seats in the front cabin.
Of course the trucks could also be used as cargo carriers when needed. It is likely that these trucks – are to be issued to General Operation Force (GOF) units across the nation as troop carriers. Senoi Praq GOF units were equipped with Unimog trucks in the late 90s. I believe most of them are retired now. I believe this will be the first time that the police will be operating five tonne trucks as troop carriers. I stand to be corrected of course.
Some of the specifications for the three tonne truck:
LORI 3 TAN CREW
CABIN (4WD
Kenderaan yang ditawarkan mestilah chasis asal dari jenis lori Crew
Cabin 4 – pintu dan mempunyai kapasiti tempat duduk tidak kurang
daripada 5 orang. (MANDATORI)

Some of the specifications for the five tonne truck:
LORI 5 TAN CREW CABIN (4WD)

(MANDATORI)
The indicative cost for the tender is RM35 million. This is just to show that it is much cheaper for the government to buy these trucks outright than lease them.
As for buses, this is the title of the tender:

Do polis need to buy buses? Its best just to rent from any coach company, anyway not everytime the bus are being use except to bring in new intakes, sent off vips etc etc..singapore armed forces is a good example where they utilizes private bus company for military transportation be it to transport new intakes, vip etc...
The problem of hiring buses for police and MAF for operations is that some people might make it as if the authorities trying to do something funny. In the last GE, police send troop reinforcements to some hot areas in Kedah and some people make it as if they were shipping in voters to the area.
