SHAH ALAM: SP holder promoted as VAT 69 commander. Malaysian Defence is late to this but on 18th Oct, the police announced that ACP Abdul Mohd Yusof, honoured with the country’s highest federal award – the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (SP) for his bravery in the 2000 Al Maunah incident has been promoted as the commanding officer of the 69 Commando unit.
Following his ascension to the CO of VAT 69, he was also promoted to the rank of acting Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC), equivalent to the rank of Brig. General in the Army.
Abdul Razak replaces SAC Fisol Salleh who was promoted as the Deputy Director, Internal Security and Public Order Division at Bukit Aman, according to a transfer order for senior police officers dated Oct. 18. Abdul Razak, 55, have been the deputy commander of VAT 69 since 2011. He joined the police in 1988 as a probationary inspector and a year later he officially became a VAT 69 trooper.
He was instrumental in ending the Al Maunah siege at Bukit Jenalik, Sauk, Perak by negotiating with the leader of the militant group which led to their surrender to Army Lt Gen Zaini Mohd Said on July 5, 2000. Zaini was also awarded with the SP medal for his actions in the incident.
Apart from Ops Subuh ( the police code name for the Al Maunah incident), Abdul Razak is credited with involvement in six other operations as well various search and rescue operations around the country.
He is currently the most decorated serving officer still in service with five others who were awarded the Pingat Gagah Berani still active in the military.

Does VAT69 and other PGA battalions regularly rotated for tour of duty to ESSCOM like malaysian army battalions and 10PARA?

No only by squadron or even a platoon basis for 69, companies and platoons for the PGA
