  • Condolences to the family & friends. But how is this possible? It is unheard of! Soldier being shot during exercise by an unknown party. Something is really wrong here

  • "fun" fact, Sabah forestry rangesr were dealing with incessant threat from poachers and agarwood thieves from as far as laos and Vietnam that they're arming themselves with body armor and Turkish made semiauto shotgun and AR-15s

  • Sad to hear this incident. But as I said before its a bad omen for whats happening to our country. In just this year alone, we had chopper crashes, ship sunk, now people shot.

  • Qamarul - ''Something is really wrong here''

If one has the knack of stating the obvious; yes.

Until I know what really contributed to the incident; I'll reserve judgement however as I have no idea. There was a reason it occurred; not a bad omen or anything sinister or out of this world but due to a reason. All the other incidents were also caused by something. Years ago troops at a border crossing hada grenade thrown at them.

dundun - ''“fun” fact, Sabah forestry rangesr were dealing with incessant threat from poachers''

True but not a ''fun fact'' for the animals or the forestry chaps on the receiving end of fire from the said poachers. The border is long, porous and at places; poorly defined.

  • Also, "fun" fact; if anyone questions why sabah forestry rangers were armed to the teeth (with semiauto shotguns and AR-15s instead of break action shotgun like rela or perhilitan), it's because these viet thieves and poachers were armed with assault rifles like AK47 and SKS

    • never heard of Vietnamese poachers entering Sabah forests...Siamese and Burmese ones entering Perak and Kelantan, yes...

  • dundun - ''Also, “fun” fact; if anyone questions why sabah forestry rangers were armed to the teeth''

Further ''fun facts'' as you call them; we have the same situation in Africa; poachers armed with auto weapons and park rangers which are overstretched and ill funded.

I also had/have no idea how Vietnamese poachers ended up in East Malaysia.

  • IIRC there were some news reports about 2 years on Vietnamese fishing boats that were spotted off the shore of Sabah. As for the poachers, the M.O. apparently is to fly in as tourists then head off to jungles - I think that was the case of the ranger in Pahang that got seriously injured while attempting to apprehend one Vietnamese poacher. Apparently that fellow (poacher) got some serious military training. Maybe that's how they come in Sabah as well

    • serious military training? All Vietnamese men are drafted into the military when they turned 18 and after their mandatory military service also must serve their local militia. It is for this reason they are experienced with weapons and jungle warfare.
