Soldier Dies After Being Shot

SHAH ALAM: A soldier from 3 Royal Ranger Regiment (3 RRD) died several hours after he was shot early this morning in Sarawak. It said the soldier was shot by an unknown party. The Army in a statement confirmed the death although as off this time has not identified the soldier.

A Bernama report quoted Kapit police as saying that the soldier was shot by a hunter though they have yet to make an arrest.

KAPIT (Sept 23): An armed forces personnel died after being shot by a civilian suspected of hunting in the forest area of Km 8, Jalan Balak Multiplus, Song near here early this morning.

Song district police chief DSP Rowney Michael Jalak said the victim, Petrus Linggi Liman, 29, suffered severe injuries to his left thigh and hip while he was on a hammock during tactical training in the forest area.

3 RRD is based in Sibu, Sarawak and is part of the Ninth Brigade. The release stated that the soldier was taking part in a company size exercise in Song, Sarawak as part of Eksesais Pasak Bumi. The exercise started on September 21 and ends on September 29.

“On the second day of the exercise (September 23) at about 2.45am, as the platoon was taking a breather they heard a sound of a motorcycle on the dirt track near them. A gun shot was then heard and checks on the perimeter showed one of the soldiers had been shot.

“Initial medical aid was provided before he was taken to the Song medical clinic about 4am. He was then referred to the Kapit Hospital an hour later. Unfortunately, the soldier died about 7.43am at the hospital due to the injury suffered.

The Army said the next of kin of the soldier in Sarikei, has been notified and arrangements has been for the burial following the completion of the post mortem examination.
