SHAH ALAM: RMN KK Air and Helo unit ceremony. Senior Defence Minister DS Hishammuddin Hussein is scheduled to officiate the opening ceremony of the RMN Kota Kinabalu air station soon. He will also officiate the newest RMN helicopter squadron, Skuadron 503, equipped with the three Leonardo AW139 maritime operations helicopters (MOH/MUH). The air station is located inside the RMN base at Teluk Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu.
No date for the ceremonies were published in a tender for the supply of 15 vehicles for the ceremonies in the Eperolehan website today. It is likely that the ceremony will be held next week (likely July 1) as Hari Raya Haji is on July 10.
Apart from the 503, the KK air station is also the site for the RMN’s UAS squadron, the Skuadron 601, currently equipped with the Boeing Scan Eagle UAS, gifted from the US.
As you are aware, RMN procured three AW139s in 2020, and at least two of the helicopters are already in Kota Kinabalu. It is likely the third one is already there, hence the official opening and standing-up ceremonies.
The other two RMN squadrons are the Skuadron 501 (Super Lynx) and Skuadron 502 (Fennec).
