SHAH ALAM: Rencong home. The fourth and last China made Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) – Rencong – has arrived at her home – Kota Kinabalu Naval base in Teluk Sepanggar, here, today. RMN took delivery of Rencong at the Wuchuan Shipyard at Nantong City, Qidong in China, just ten days ago, Dec. 18.
According to the RMN Eastern Fleet command:
Kapal #LMS Keempat, RENCONG yg dianggotai 45 kru selamat tiba di Pangkalan TLDM Kota Kinabalu hari ini setelah majlis penyerahan fizikal kepada Kerajaan Malaysia selesai dilaksanakan pada 18 Dis yang lalu di Qidong, China
The delivery and naming ceremony of Rencong – pennant number 114 – was done by the ship’s sponsor Puan Sutinah Mohamad, the wife of the LMS Project team head.
As reported before the fourth LMS, is named after a Kris class ship, KD Renchong, which was decommissioned in 2005. As her other sister ships, the China-made vessel she was named after a traditional hand weapon the rencong.
Work on the Rencong started on 18 September 2019, and she was launched on 16 December, 2020. It is likely like her sister ships, Rencong, her build and sea trials were delayed by the pandemic.
Rencong will joined her sister ships, KD Keris, KD Sundang and KD Badik in the 11th LMS Squadron. Again RMN did not published her commissioning date though based on the current situation and the need for the crew to undergo a mandatory quarantine after arriving from overseas, it is likely on the third or fourth Friday of the new year.
