SHAH ALAM: It appears that the Nuri helicopter which crash landed at Pulau Perak, in the Straits of Malacca on Sunday was the same helo which was used to transport the Deputy Defence Minister to the Jugra Camp last month.
News reports stated that the crew only suffered minor injuries in the incident. The helicopter, serial number M23-15, appears to be a write-off. The initial cause of the crash landing appears to be a technical fault.
The Defence Ministry and RMAF have not issued any details on the incident on an island which is located roughly halfway between the peninsula and Sumatera.
You can see the helicopter and others in the video below:
There is a small Army detachment on the island to guard against intrusion by illegal immigrants, pirates and fishermen. Following the decision of the ICJ on the status of Pulau Batu Puteh, the government had stationed Malaysian personnel on small islands and outcrops to ensure the country’s claim on them are justified.
