SHAH ALAM: The Army is getting more high frequency radios for its vehicles, a tender for such radios revealed. The tender for 113 HF vehicular radios was published on December 31 and closes on January 31.

As it mentioned vehicular radios, these are meant for the Fitted For Radio vehicles of the Army. The current FFR vehicles are the Global Komited GK-M1 and MK-2 and the Cendana Auto ones. A small number of Land Rover FFRs remained in service though it is likely they will be replaced as the newer vehicles are delivered.

The specifications for the tender:

RADIO HIGH FREQUENCY (HF) VEHICULAR UNTUK TENTERA DARAT

The estimated cost for the radios is RM42 million and change.

Another tender for 113 VHF vehicular radios was published earlier this year. The tender was published on August 8 and closed on August 27. The estimated cost for the radios was RM38 million and change.

Checks on the Eperolehan website today showed that Advanced Defence Systems Sdn Bhd (ADS) was awarded the LOA of RM37 million and change. As ADS is now the local partner of Thales, it is likely that the VHF radios are from the French company. Malaysian Defence has reported previously that Thales has long been the supplier of tactical and vehicle radios for the Armed Forces.

It lost several tenders in recent years though prior to the divestment from STE Sdn Bhd, its JV partner with Sapura.
