SHAH ALAM: The Armed Forces’ Defence Intelligence Staff Division (DISD) has been renamed as the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO). The name and logo change were officially done on September 23 by Chief of Defence Forces General Affendi Buang. Despite the name, MDIO and this website has nothing in common.

The name change is apt as the DISD in recent memory has had a controversial existence culminating in the jailing of a former director-general for corruption.

As far as I understand it the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation is the MAF’s intel body. Each of the services also have their respective intelligence bodies.
Then there is the national security agency which collects all types of military/pliyicsl/economic intel and reports to the PM [the American and British equivalents would respectively be the CIA and SIS].
Last but not least we have the Special Branch which deals with political and internal security stuff including serious crime [a rough equivalent would be the FBI]. The Special Branch is also responsible for counter intelligence.
Does this sound correct?
The MI in the three services also come from or trained and report to BSPP and now MDIO. They are also people with other trade badges but also work or trained by MI
Nothing about the PAC for MMEA OPVs?
Nothing. As the PAC just announced it was going to held its proceedings for the MMEA OPV. I am guessing the report will only be published within 12 to 24 months time. It must be noted that a new PAC will have to be set up once the general elections is over. And the new PAC will have to decide whether it wants to continue with the proceedings of the MMEA OPV if it has started by the time the GE is held
