Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters Vehicles Tenders

SHAH ALAM: Last year, there were four tenders issued separately for vehicles for the Malaysian Armed Forces headquarters. The vehicles are thirty-four utility one-tonne trucks; forty-six GS Cargo one-tonne trucks; thirty-four three-tonne GS Cargo trucks and thirty-eight utility vans.

Perhaps, they counted these vehicles as part of the Army support vehicles quota as most of these vehicles will be mostly driven by Army personnel. Anyhow the public specifications of the tenders did not say where and what units the vehicles will be issued to and their roles.

The indicative costs for the tenders are RM9.860 million (utility); RM13.340 million (GS Cargo); RM17.680 million (three tonners) and RM6.840 million (utility vans).

The utility van tender was published on July 18 and closed on August 8. The other tenders were published separately on August 27 and closed September 3.

Checks with the Finance Ministry tender page on January 29 showed that Global Mahawangsa Sdn Bhd was issued the LOA for the utility truck tender with an LOA of RM8.874 million.

Cendana Auto was awarded the contract to supply the forty-six GS Cargo one-tonne trucks with an LOA of RM12.139 million.

High Point Worldwide Sdn Bhd was awarded the LOA of RM15.912 million for the three tonne GS Cargo trucks while Global Komited Sdn Bhd, the contract for the utility vans with an LOA of RM6.718 million. utility van.

It is interesting to note that while both Global Komited and Cendana Auto are vehicle assemblers, Global Mahawangsa and High Point are not though the latter’s website stated it also conduct MRO of military vehicles.

It is likely that Global Komited – which is part of the Weststar Group – will provide the Maxus V80 2.5 L 15 seater vans for its contract while Cendana Auto will offer a variant of its Toyota Hilux based 4X4 for the GS cargo ones. It is likely the single cab variant with the rear bed with a canopy and fold down seat.

It is unclear what three-tonne trucks will be sourced by High Point for its contract though industry sources told Malaysian Defence it may well be an Isuzu chassis as provided by Deftech as the Handalan II.

As for Global Mahawangsa, I am inclined to believe it will be a version of the Toyota Hilux single-cab 4X4 as well. It will be fitted with a canvas canopy, but the flat bed will be left empty to carry cargoes from fuel drums to rations. I stand to be corrected for course.

  1. 1 ton utility truck?

Last time it was the HICOM Perkasa MTB140 double cab.

As this is for markas ATM, it will have ZZ number plates (army would be ZC, ZD),and should be assigned to markas ATM directly.

  2. Other than Cendana & GK, Highpoint is becoming yet another “preferred” supplier (particularly imported vehicles).
