SHAH ALAM: Bandar Tun Razak MP DS Wan Azizah Wan Ismail named MMEA’s first locally built – KM Tun Fatimah -pennant number 8305 – in a ceremony at the Kuching port in Kuching, Sarawak today (March 2, 2024). Wan Azizah is the wife of DS Anwar Ibrahim, PMX. Tun Fatimah is currently berthed at the port.

As you are aware, Malaysian Defence was the first to report that the THHE Destini JV ship was to be called Tun Fatimah. Initially the ships – three of them – were to be named after royal towns in line with MMEA OPV naming convention but then it was changed to women warriors instead. When the current government took over however, it was decided that the lead ship will be called OPV1 instead. And after all that time, in the end, the OPV was named Tun Fatimah after all.
A token of appreciation for DS Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for naming KM Tun Fatimah.

Anyhow, in the press release issued by the Home Ministry, its minister DS Shaifuddin Nasution was serious in ensuring that MMEA replaces its old assets. This remained to be seen as there is no word yet on whether OPV2 and OPV3 will be completed soon. There is also no mentioned of China in his release unlike what was stated in Parliament last week.

๐—ž๐—จ๐—–๐—›๐—œ๐—ก๐—š, ๐Ÿฎ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ – Isteri Perdana Menteri, Yang Amat Berbahagia Datoโ€™ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Dr. Wan Ismail telah menamakan Kapal Peronda Luar Pesisir Pertama (OPV1) milik Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia (Maritim Malaysia) dengan nama Kapal Maritim (KM) Tun Fatimah di Jeti Lembaga Pelabuhan Kuching di sini hari ini.

  1. So much ado about nothing. Did they un-officiate its naming just so that PMX wife can ‘officially’ name her which is the same as before?

  2. The problem :

Chinese Coast Guard intrusion into Malaysian Maritime Zone should be primary dealt by Malaysian Coast Guard.

    But

Looks like KDN aka Home Ministry does not think the Chinese Coast Guard intrusions are a an issue to be solved by KDN.

Which leaves the Chinese Coast Guard issue to be settled by TLDM, which is not the ideal service to confront and deal with the Chinese Coast Guard.

We need to take Malaysian Coast Guard (APMM) away from being under KDN, and back to be under JPM. Just do a swap Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM) from JPM to KDN, and return Malaysian Coast Guard (APMM) to be back under JPM.
