SHAH ALAM: IT appears that the Pasukan Khas Laut (Paskal) will continue to use their H&K MP5 sub-machine guns even if they are supplied with other firearms like the Berretta PMX sub-machine gun. The importance of the MP5 to Paskal was demonstrated yet again when a Paskal team together with the Grup Gerak Khas (GGK) and Pasukan Khas Udara (Paskau) troopers conducted a hostage rescue exercise on a Petronas oil platform on the South China Sea recently.
It is likely the troopers stormed the oil platform from the air and the sea – using helicopters and boats as part of the training to confuse the “attackers” holding “hostages”. The troopers were supported by at least one RMN training ship, KD Gagah Samudera and EC725 helicopters from RMAF for the exercise.
Exercise Jerung Emas/ Golden Shark 6/23 – organised by the Joint Force Headquarters – was conducted on Dulang B oil platform some 170km off Kerteh, Terengganu.

Of course, Paskal also employed other firearms when appropriate – pistols and sniper rifles, pictures from JF showed. The GGK – were mostly employed with M4A1 Carbines and pistols. Paskau troopers appeared to be the only team carrying the PMX submachineguns.
It is too early for the GGK to be using the Sig Sauer MPX sub machine guns. Perhaps, they will do so in the next upcoming exercises.

Do GGK & Paskau still using SIG 553?
Likely
Nope... PASKAU troopers still carrying their issued MP5A5 subgun. PMX subgun currently only available to the Para Brigade's reconnaissance company & PASKAL
Look at the pictures
GGK might still be using M4 even after the full induction of MPX. There are SOF variant of M4 called SOPMOD used by Navy Seals.
MP5 and MPX are 9mm submachine guns. M4 is 5.56 asault rifle. I find it more surprising Paskal and Paskau still using 9mm guns in such scenarios. No matter the marksmanship of the user, its still a 9mm gun.
A 9mm submachine gun is still useful in a CQB role
Honest question from a non military, is it safe to shoot at Pelantar minyak?
It's likely non-operational, as it is one of the oldest oil platform
Kel – “. I find it more surprising Paskal and Paskau still using 9mm guns in such scenarios”
I’m “surprised” your surprised. In operational circumstances where engagement ranges are short and when it’s desired that stray rounds not penetrate too deep; why wouldn’t 9mm be used?
Would you be surprised to know that SF/SOF units have been known to use .22?
