SHAH ALAM: It appears that the delayed GGK/Special Services Group combat dive complex at the Iskandar Camp, Mersing, has been completed. Several pictures of the complex – one with the main pool filled up – were published on the HRH Crown Prince of Johor Facebook page.

The post which was published today (November 9) only have one line:

Visit and briefing on the upcoming training exercise between Malaysia Special Forces and Johor Military Forces, Elite Forces.

The post has numerous pictures of TMJ visiting the combat dive complex and the airplane simulator at the camp. The King himself had complained about the delay in completing the complex in April.

The King – who is also GGK Colonel Commandant – in a Facebook post today stated that the complex should be completed by December 2022.
“Infact, I was told yesterday that those involved had asked for six extensions. And today I found that the project signboard has been taken down. I want the sign board to be re-erected and I want the Johor Public Works Department and the Mersing district engineer to explain”, the King said in the post.

Subsequently, Johor Menteri Besar Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi stated that the complex will be completed by June, this year.

Based on the pictures posted by the Crown Prince Facebook page, the combat dive complex has been completed and it is likely that the official opening ceremony is in the works. I stand to be corrected of course. Furthermore, I have no idea whether the facility has been handed over to the Public Works Department or not. I believe the official handover needs to take place before the GGK could start training there.

As for the simulator, this is the Close Quarter Battle Simulator which contract was awarded to Inversys Corporation Sdn Bhd as reported here.
The CQB simulator which took form of a 747 airliner.

It is likely that Inversys Corporation built the simulator using parts of a real aircraft. It cannot be retired 747 air-liner as there is no paved runaway at the camp.

  1. YDPA unhappy for the delay & that’s understandable but it is not the King’s prerogative to get involved in construction projects such as this & for sure not the second 5G network too. Forgive me but for me it is unacceptable for a sovereign to do business with the government

  2. The question is whether the “simulator” can simulate certain things or is just an aircraft mock up?
Can they use flash bang and other things in it?

  3. They did use a real plane, they can cut up the 747, similar to what is done below, this is the one in Senai Airport previously (the one in Mersing looks like a 747-400 version with winglets, so it is probably a different aircraft)

They cut it up and reassembled in Mersing. If you zoom in the pictures of the one in Mersing you can see they tried to haphazardly cover the area that was cut, particularly between the top and main deck. Also as they just hack up the wings (affecting especially the wing spar), it has lost its structural integrity and had to be supported by random poles.

There is also another 2 747 in JB very far away from any airports. So it can be done.

  4. Yes it can be done but I was hoping that it wasn’t just a put together aircraft or actual one which had been cut up and ressembled but a purpose built fuselage equipped with various things to accuracy simulate as real and far as possible an actual op.

  5. There are 3 places I seen myself where ex airliner are parked middle of nowhere far from any runway but seem like cannot post past spam catcher. My point still stands there are ways to transport it there.
