Five ALK Cadet Officers Sacked over Bullying Cases

SHAH ALAM: Five cadet officers of the Military Academy Wing (ALK) of the National Defence University (UPNM) have been dismissed from the institution and the Armed Forces. The cadet officer would have been commissioned into service if they had completed their studies at the ALK.

In a statement released today, Defence minister DS Khaled Nordin said apart from their sacking, the dismissed cadets will also need to pay a total of RM189,250.80 restitution to the government which sponsored their studies at the university and ALK.

From FMT:

He said the decision was made during the Malaysian Armed Forces council meeting yesterday, based on ALK’s recommendations.

“These actions do not preclude any other measures taken by UPNM or the Attorney-General’s Chambers,” he said.

He said Amirul Iskandar Norhanizan, who has claimed trial to a charge of injuring a fellow cadet officer with a hot iron at the academy on Oct 22, would have to repay the government RM44,600.20.

Meanwhile, Izzat Izuddin Arif, Hidayat Haqimi Yuslan, and Ku Muhammad Irfan Ku Zaimi will have to compensate the government RM48,452.75, RM19,481.70 and RM44,600.20 respectively.

Khaled said the three were involved in the physical abuse of a cadet officer by imposing “corrective punishment” and implementing isolation practices that caused the victim emotional distress.

The fifth cadet officer, Ammar Hafiy Habib, will have to compensate the government RM32,115.95 after physically abusing another cadet officer and inflicting injuries classified as “soft tissue injury over the lower back secondary to trauma”.

Khaled said the defence ministry would not compromise on any form of abuse at military institutions and would continue to improve preventive mechanisms to avoid the recurrence of such incidents.

“The ministry is committed to ensuring that any actions violating established ethics and regulations are dealt with firmly and decisively,” he said.

“The ministry hopes that this decision serves as a lesson to all parties and helps restore and strengthen the military values that should be upheld.”
