SHAH ALAM: Industry sources has told Malaysian Defence that a 43 metre design from Fassmer has been selected for the MMEA’s New Generation Patrol Craft (NGPC) project.
The same design, albeit at 40 metres, are used for the Diana class patrol boats of the Royal Danish Navy and CPC-40 patrol boat of the Colombian Coast Guard. The RDN operate six Diana class boats while one CPC-40 is in service with the Colombians although plans call for another seven more vessels.
The Diana class patrol boats have a glass fibre body and a crew of 15 while the Colombian vessel has a hull from steel and accommodation for 24 crew. The NGPC will have
a steel hull however as stated by the MMEA’s specifications.
Both boats are fitted with twin MTU diesel engines and while the Diana class are only fitted with two 12.7mm HMGs, the Colombian one is fitted with a 25mm Typhoon RWS.
Both boats have an aft ramp to launch and recover an RHIB and has enough space to carry a standard size ISO container. For a more detailed look of the NGPC specifications go here
I am still looking for the local shipyard which had secured the deal with Fassmer as the NGPC tender stated that the boat will have to be built in Malaysia. The contract for the NGPC is expected to be signed at LIMA 15 in March.
It is still unclear whether the NGPCs will be delivered complete with UAVs as specified by the tender.

The Thornycroft Giles design has a greater beam providing more internal space than that available on the Fassmer design. For instance the Thornycroft Giles design allows for two RHIB’s to be stowed side by side and to be launched from a stern door whilst the vessel is steaming at speed. Also capability includes ability to carry two standard size ISO containers, operate a UAV and fit a 25mm Typhoon RWS. All other specifications are very similar to the Fassmer CPV40 including speed, manning and range.

Another option of similar capabilities would be a Thornycroft Giles designed 36m Patrol Boat that is being proposed for the Oman Navy and Pacific Patrol Boat Project in Australia. This vessel can be built in Malaysia at a reasonable cost.

The boats are ok. But what will be its armaments?. At least it should have a main gun of 30 or 40mm plus maybe a gatling gun at the back. The gatling gun can be of .50 cal or maybe 20 mm.

As mentioned in the previous posts, it will be armed with a 30mm gun and a couple of HMGs.

The Columbian model looks better with 2-funnel rather than Diana’s single funnel with that weird black guardrail on top.
Hope that NGPC comes with the UAV.

The yard that was formerly Hong Leong Lurssen also delivered 2 river patrol boats to Cambodia in the 1990’s.

Marhalim…if im not mistaken nautica nova formerly known as hong leong lurseen build 2 off 45M Fast patrol craft…for the nigerian navy…no to forget the jerong class and the Hydro ships.guess they have the experience but BNS have a shipyard at pulau jerejak.
Going by your previous comment ” the yard is upnorth but not that far” put it as probable candidate..but we have to wait for march to see who will be building it…nautica nova seems more likely as it has a good record for delivering.but its just my guess

As for the Samudera class its certainly not Nautica Nova. As for the NGPC I have yet to get any information on the local partner. Yes we could have built on the yard, it was also the builder of the two hydrography boats for RMN.

They have ample free board and are of the right displacement for the kind of roles the MMEA performs daily. Lets hope these ships are delivered on time, on specification and within budget.

Previously the nautica nova shipyard built fassmer designed boats for Cambodia. But I guess it could be anyone for these new apmm ships.
Personally i prefer the Damen 5009 designs.
