SHAH ALAM: Eks Paradise moved to October. In an earlier post, I wrote that the RMAF was planning to hold Eksesais Paradise 8/2021 in late July and a flypast for Merdeka Day. While the Merdeka Day flypast did take place, apparently Eksesais Paradise did not and now it has been rescheduled to October 23 to 29.
RMAF announced on September 5, it will be holding Eksesais Ababil at the Labuan airbase and Kota Belud from September 7 to 17, 2021. The exercise will involved RMAF assets including its Special Forces and will involved firings of ordnance and low level flying.
As for Eksesais Paradise, we know the dates as the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued a supplementary Aeronautical Information Publication on it.
From the AIP.
Exercise Paradise 8/2021 will take place within the Kuala Lumpur FIR from 230001UTC to 291600UTC OCTOBER 2021. Exercise Airspace, as defined at Paragraph 2 and depicted on Annex A, will be closed for specified periods to civil and non-exercise military aircraft.
2 EXERCISE AIRSPACE2.1 Kuantan Approach shall be the coordinating authority for the Exercise Airspace. Kuantan Approach will release the Exercise Airspace back for civil use within the ADEX window period if not required.
2.2 The Exercise Airspace encompasses portions of the Kuala Lumpur FIR, as described below and depicted at Annex A to this AIP Supplement
As reported before Eks Paradise 8/21 ( Para Air Drop Defense, Insertion, Strike, Search & Rescue and Extraction exercise) will involved RMAF units from the Subang, Kuantan, Gong Kedak and Butterworth. The main exercise area will be in the central of Peninsula, in areas around Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.
Apart from firing on ground targets and mock air to air battles conducted by fast jets , RMAF transporters and helicopters will also drop paratroopers and equipment and performed simulated combat and search rescue operations hence the name of the exercise, Paradise.
The exercise is conducted on annual basis by RMAF and its supposed to be held alternately between Sabah/Sarawak and the peninsula. It is likely the pandemic has forced RMAF to conduct this year’s edition in peninsula as the last one was also held here. It is likely Eksesais Ababil is held in Sabah and Sarawak in place of Eksesais Paradise due to travel and medical restrictions imposed by Covid 19 pandemic.
