SHAH ALAM: Eks Paradise and Merdeka Flypast. The Aeronautical Information Services of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued two supplementary AIPs for Malaysia, the first regarding Eks Paradise 8/2021 to be held in the central of the peninsula from July 27 (today) to August 2. The second AIP is for RMAF aerial flypast prior to and on Malaysia’s national on August 31.
The Eks Paradise 8/21 ( Para Air Drop Defense, Insertion, Strike, Search & Rescue and Extraction exercise) will involved RMAF units from the Subang, Kuantan, Gong Kedak and Butterworth. The main exercise area will be in the central of Peninsula, in areas around Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.
A firing range is located around Gua Musang. This means airliner flights to Kelantan and Terengganu from July 27 (today) to August 2 will be rerouted away from the exercise area
Apart from firing on ground targets and mock air to air battles conducted by fast jets , RMAF transporters and helicopters will also drop paratroopers and equipment and performed simulated combat and search rescue operations hence the name of the exercise, Paradise. The exercise is conducted on annual basis by RMAF and its supposed to be held alternately between Sabah/Sarawak and the peninsula. It is likely the pandemic has forced RMAF to conduct this year’s edition in peninsula as the last one was also held here.
It is also interesting to note that the government is making plans for a national day parade this year despite the increasing number of Covid cases which breached the 1 million mark on July 25. Anyhow, the AIP supplementary notice stated
The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will be participating in the National Day Parade 2021 as part of the Malaysia’s 64th National Day Celebrations that will be held in Putrajaya, Malaysia on the 31st August 2021. Therefore, this AIP Supplement is issued to advice aviation industry on temporary changes to the controlled airspace and Air Traffic Management in and around the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur TMA from 26 to 31 August 2021 between 0000 UTC to 0130UTC daily to accommodate the event.
The objective of these changes is to ensure a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic before, during and after the aerial flypast, taking into account the increase in the number of movements and the special handling needed throughout this event
Basically this means flight to and fro out of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will have to make away for the training and actual flypast from August 26 to 31. I believed if the national day parade goes ahead as planned with the flypasts, it will not disturb KLIA flights too much. Due to the travel restrictions, the number of flights to and fro KLIA are much lower than three years ago.
