Deputy Army Chief Appointed

Hasagaya

SHAH ALAM: Deputy Army Chief Appointed. Mej. Gen Hasagaya Abdullah, the former Third Division commander was promoted to Lt General and appointed as the new Army deputy chief on Oct. 18. Hasagaya, 55, became the deputy Army chief some seven years after his predecessor and current Army chief Gen. Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi was appointed to the post.

It appears that the Army had taken its succession process seriously as the other two Army three stars who traditionally will be chosen for the deputy post were not put up for promotion. Both of them Lt Gen. Azizan Mat Delin (Field Commmander, Western) and Lt. Gen Stephen Mundaw (Field Commander, Eastern) already reached or near their mandatory retirement age.

The Army has yet to release Hasagaya’s biodata but from a Google search, we know that he came from Segamat, Johor, and had extensive field command experience from his time with the Third Division, Third and 30th brigades, deputy commander of 10th Para and the Army headquarters secretariat director.

On the same day as Hasagaya’s promotion, the Army also promoted 65 other officers including Maj Gen Tengku Muhammad Fauzi Tengku Ibrahim, the immediate former 10th Para Brigade commander, who is now the COS of the Joint Force Command and Maj Gen Yusri Anwar who remains as the commander of Air Artillery Defence Group or GAPU.

Reizal promoted as Brigadier

Others promoted include Brig Gen. Reizal Arif Ismail, who served two stints as the Malbatt commander in UNIFI and Brig . Gen Loh Kooi Leong who is Joint Force Command exercise director and a former Third Division COS. The release did not state where both are going nor the three other colonels promoted as Brig. Gen as well.

  • Congratulations to all involved.

BTW why something important like this was not done involving the YDP Agong as the commander-in-chief?

    Reply
The Agong only signed off the promotions and appointments of these officers after its approved by the Armed Forces Council and is never involved with the ceremonies itself.
