SHAH ALAM: Back in March, Malaysian Defence reported that the Army intent to procure some 100 combat buggies for use by its forces to augment the scramblers in reconnaissance platoons. The extra capacity of the combat utes will allow scouts to carry more equipment.
And it appears that the leading candidate – Polaris MRZR light tactical all-terrain vehicle or combat buggy – will undergo local testing after making its debut at the DSA 2024. And unlike the desert sand coloured MRZR pictured at a Bangkok defence show a few years back, the one displayed at DSA 2024 is in green. It is still a four-seater model though.
Victoris Technica Sdn Bhd executive director Major (rtd) Mohd Rizal Rozali said the MRZR is configured for reconnaissance work and will be fitted with machine guns. For the show the MRZR is fitted with the HMG on the back but for the trials, the machine gun will be fitted on a ring-mount on top of the cabin.
It must be noted that industry sources that the number of buggies being sought by the Army has now been reduced to eighty only mainly due to the weakening ringgit.
