SHAH ALAM: Previously, Malaysian Defence wrote about the support vehicles tendered out for the Army. The vehicles are boat carriers, Starstreak missiles, automatic grenade launcher and heavy machine guns carriers, medium recovery vehicles, 10 tonne and one tonne GS cargo trucks, boat trailers and all terrain support vehicles.
Six bidders took part in the tactical boat carrier tender, with four bidding at RM4.5 million, the next higher one is RM4.55 million and the highest RM4.65 million. I am guessing that the budget is RM5 million.
For the Starstreak missile carriers or vehicles, five bidders took part with the highest bid at RM2.799 million and the lowest RM2.660 million. The budget for the vehicles, I believe is RM3 million.
Sixteen bidders took part in the tender for the seven all terrain support vehicles for the 10th Parachute Brigade. The highest bid is RM19.6 million and RM5.6 million is the lowest. It is interesting to note that 13 bids were from RM5.6 million to RM5.9 million which I assumed means that the budget price for the ATSV is around RM6 million.
For the tender for 82 one tonne GS cargo trucks, 13 bidders took part with the highest RM20.190 million and lowest RM18.450 million. The lowest bid was made by seven bidders which is likely that they were made by the same principal using seven different companies.
Twelve bidders took part in the tender for 29 three-quarter tonne trailers with the lowest coming in at RM1.1 million and the highest at RM3.306 million. Two bids came at the highest price with another five bids coming in at RM3.132 million each.
The highest bid for the 83 heavy machine gun carriers is RM62.250 million with the lowest at RM44.820 million proposed by three bidders. Based on the bids, I am inclined to believe the budget for the vehicles is RM45 million.
As for 80 automatic grenade launcher carriers, nine bidders took part with the lowest price at RM43.6 million and the highest at RM60 million. I am guessing the budget is also RM45 million.
The highest bid for fourteen 10-tonne GS Cargo truck is RM16.772 million while the lowest RM15.120 million, which has two bidders. I am guessing that the reserve price RM15.5 million.
As for the six medium recovery vehicles, I am guessing that the budget for them is RM30 million based on the seven bids. Three of the bids came in at RM29.7 million while the highest is RM33 million.
Apart from the Army, the Defence Disasters Logistics Support Depot in Sungai Buloh, which is manned by the Army, also published a tender for four units of one-tonne utility 4X4 vehicles; six 3000kg forklifts and four seven tonne GS cargo. The lowest bid price for the fourteen vehicles is RM3.819 million while the highest is RM7.196 million.

Whoever put in that nearly 20mil bid must be out of their minds. Way out of excessive profiteering.
Or not connected so put in high bid price, well above the budget.
Taking the one ton GS truck as an example, RM20 million for 18 unit would be RM240k per unit. Why such high price for a normal commercial pickup with some accessories?
There\'s a lot of talk about buying equipment and such, but honestly? Come push to shove, Malaysian military can\'t sustain long term. There\'s so many things we aren\'t doing right. Personally I think we should build up our defense industry. If the American or the Russians decide to not give us anything, who\'s jet do we buy? Where do we source those munitions?
rm220k for a GS truck is fair enough. Between uprated engine (there's no way they're selling those puny 1.9L), bigger wheel, snorkle, gun racks, bull bar, those custom bed frame (army DMax didnt use the same bed frame design as the ones sold to civilian), custom lightings, custom paintjob, backseat install and frames for those canvas topper the cost could easily go upward of 60-70k. Single cab Isuzu DMax is about 110k and that's the 1.9L version with those puny kompang wheel

If the American and her allies like OZ & NZ don't sell us food then we got nothing to eat. If the Americans and her allies like EU & JP don't buy ours export then we run out of money. If the Americans pull out of asean then we can say goodbye to 15% of GDP as Chinese ship stop us from drilling oil.
So running out of munitions is the least of our worries when it comes to America & friends. Do you really think we can have an independent foreign policy and say screw you uncle Sam?
