Batik and Pewter?

KUALA LUMPUR: MINDEF ran a news story today (June 27, 2007)on its website http://www.mod.gov.my/ about the courtesy visit of Pakistan military commander Left Gen Sallah Ud Din on Malaysian Armed Forces chief Jeneral Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Zainal today.

First and foremost, I am very sure that that Sallah is not the the JCSC, Pakistan’s equivalent to Abdul Aziz.

The actual story on the website (in Malay) stated “Panglima Angkatan Tentera Malaysia, Jeneral Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Zainal memberi cenderahati kepada Panglima Angkatan Tentera Pakistan, Leftenan Jeneral Sallah Ud Din bersempena dengan Kunjungan Hormat beliau ke atas Panglima Angkatan Tentera Malaysia pada 27 Jun 2007 (Rabu) bertempat di Pejabat Panglima Angkatan Tentera, Wisma Pertahanan, Kuala Lumpur”.

Its reads Malaysian Armed Forces chief Jen Tan Sri Dato Seri Haji Abdul Aziz Haji Zainal presenting a momento to Pakistan Armed Forces chief Lt Jen Sallah Ud Din at Mindef on June 27.

< Actually the real Pakistan Armed Forces chief is the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee or JCSC. The current JCSC is General Ehsan Ul Haq, who is currently touring China. See the story here.

Who is Sallah then? A Google check revealed a Lieutenant General Sallah un Din as the Commander of the 10th Infantry Corp, Pakistan Armed Forces. There is a probability that Sallah has been promoted as the Pakistan Army chief but with a rank of just Lt General, I doubt it.

Anyway, I am just pointing this out to the people at Mindef so they can make the necessary correction.

Oh and the title? I was just wondering what Sallah is bringing from Malaysia when he goes home. Those who flew to Pakistan in 2005 will know what and who I am referring to!
