Assault 4X4 Vehicle for DOSD, Updated

SHAH ALAM: It appears that the Defence Special Operations Division (DOSD/BOPKP) – the successor to the ill-fated National Special Operations Force (NSOF) – has taken delivery of a new 4X4 assault vehicle. DOSD may well call the new 4X4 as a rapid intervention vehicle (RIV).

The RIV was made public during a visit to the DOSD or BKOPK headquarters at the Sungei Besi camp today by Armed Forces chief General TS Mohammad Ab Rahman. The team also has an unknown number of Hilux 4X4 also used as assault vehicles but without the tactical ladders.

As usual no details were released on the assault vehicle, but it looked like a soup-up Hilux complete with ladders on the open back, allowing operators to access windows on houses or even airplanes. Four seats are fitted in the doorless cabin which are equipped with armoured shields on the side of the driver and front passenger seat.

The DOSD operators are also equipped with the Sig-Sauer MPX sub-machine guns. Apart from the SIG, they are also armed with H&K Mp5 submachineguns, M4s, combat shotguns and various handguns.

The DOSD first public display with the SIG MPX was during the parade to mark Mohammad’s ascension as the Armed Forces chief in September.

Checks on Eperolehan showed that Pardus Engineering Sdn Bhd was awarded a RM2.7 million contract to deliver, supply and commissioned four Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) for DOSD under a RFB published in May 2022. Unfortunately, the public portion of the tender did not reveal anything apart from the numbers. Pardus also supplied three RIVs under a one-year leasing deal costing RM477,552.24.

A picture published by Pardus on its website showed a glimpse of a 4X4 vehicle under manufacturing which looked similar to the new DOSD assault vehicle,

It must be noted the DOSD comprised only operators from the Armed Forces unlike NSOF which included the police and the MMEA.

  1. By looking at the rear axle, fuel filler, dashboard; yes the vehicle is a Hilux.

I don’t want to know the structural integrity of the tubings around the doors as that looks dodgy as hell. I hope those are not exhaust tubings, as it should be cold-drawn seamless tubes used for rollcages.

BTW whats wrong of just getting a normal hilux with a ladder system attached?

I hope it is not a justification for charging insane amounts of money because it is “one of a kind special” and not a mundane hilux.

  3. @ marhalim

It does not look like something that is designed by Cendana Auto (or mildef, kembara suci etc.). Still trying to find out the exact company that did this.

  4. RM 2.7mil for 4 units ergo RM 675k each. Minus 120k for the Hilux thus the mods & whatnot cost about RM550k. Oh wow!

  5. @ Marhalim – Can you reach out to MINDEF and ask them to change the words to Special Forces, not Special Force on their velcro tab.

    Thanks.

  6. @ Marhalim – The writer in me is shaking in disbelief with the grammatical error if MINDEF sticks with calling all 3 as Special Force since it’s plural, not singular.

Same as Eksesais. Why? Just call it Latihan or stick to Exercise.

    Thanks.
