SHAH ALAM: Barely three months after the Court of Appeal imposed the death sentence on six former National Defence University – Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) cadets for killing one of their own, another abuse has surfaced there.
The Armed Forces in a release yesterday confirmed that it was nvestigating allegations that a cadet at its Military Academy Wing (ALK) in Sungai Besi was bullied and tortured by a senior. The ALK trained cadets at the university on military matters.
The release was issued after a photo of the student with an iron mark on his chest went viral on social media. The injury was discovered during a routine inspection. It said that investigations were being carried out the ALK-UPNM level.
Update on November 2. The police have started investigations into the case after the 20-year-old victim lodged a report on November 1.

-TAMAT-
The death sentence on the six former cadets was imposed after the Court of Appeal allowed the prosecutionβs cross-appeal to reinstate Section 302 of the Penal Code – murder charges – initially faced by all the accused.
Former cadets -Muhammad Akmal Zuhairi Azmal, Muhammad Azamuddin Mad Sofi, Muhammad Najib Mohd Razi, Muhammad Afif Najmudin Azahat, Mohamad Shobirin Sabri, and Abdoul Hakeem Mohd Ali – were originally accused of killing RMN Cadet Officer Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain seven years ago.
Zulfarhan died from injuries he suffered from the abuse by the accussed. They had placed on burning iron all over his body to make him confess to stealing a lap-top computer. The court was told he never did.

I thought military justice goes to court martial? π§
The murder case? They were cadets not commissioned officers. Anyhow, only military things are court martial. Murder is not one of them.
Hope its not the culture in our armed forces
Maybe coz of JAG & NCIS I was assuming that all manner military justice goes to court martial (even murder), albeit these are cadets and not full time servicemen as you said.
Those are American TV series, it got nothing to do with us.
The military regardless of their rank ate s7bject to 2 sets of laws i.e. civil laws and military laws. In cases of that there are provisions like the penal code, contract laws etc. all military personnels ate subject to them.
At the same time, they are als9 subject to military laws too. So as military personnel, they kena twice.
But if the offence is strictly a military offence, like damaging military assets, breach of discipline etc would they be dealt with by a Court of inquiry of a Court Marshall
